These Air Jordan 1 Rookie of the Year are based off of the suit MJ wore when he got the award for rookie of the Year.
These feature hidden messaging under the wing flaps (normally the wings are attached on an AJ1 rather than detached). Under 1 flap you have Jordan’s rookie stats and on the other you have a message from the man himself. The same messaging is found on each shoe. These came with red and black laces.
I think light wash or black denim are the way to go here. One of the things this shoe immediately made me think though was that a number of outfits could easily go with this. Since we have a black, tan and sail (offwhite) colorway, blues, tans and blacks are all going to go with the shoe. I think the red laces add a little bit of kick to the colorway and help further expand the possible outfits with these.
How Are The Materials?
These materials are actually pretty good! You have a very short haired suede on the tan parts of the shoe. The texture is very smooth and soft and even gives a little color change when you rub it, although it is not particularly lush. The leather is tumbled but it appears to be more of a real soft tumble rather than the tumble “print” Nike likes to use. The leather tongue tag is a nice touch. Overall these have some of the more impressive materials that I’ve seen on a Jordan brand sneaker in a while.
How Do They Fit?
The Air Jordan 1 Rookie of the Year fit true to size. Are they super comfortable? Not really. But they don’t kill my feet either as long as I don’t wear them all day. For just chilling and walking around these are an acceptable level of comfort. I highly recommend against sizing down. Since these run narrow, if anything, size up for a roomier fit.
Finally I’m able to get these on foot. I can’t believe I was going to pass! These are a really nice pair of J’s and I can’t recommend them enough to fans of the AJ1 silhouette/model.
